How prices are calculated
We start from the international gold spot price in US dollars per troy ounce and convert it to euro using the current EUR/USD rate. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 g, which gives the price per gram of fine gold. For jewellery and scrap gold we apply the fineness, for example 585/1000 for 14-carat gold.
Dealers do not trade at the pure metal value, so we also show estimated buy and sell prices using typical dealer spreads. Small bars and coins carry higher premiums than large bars. These are estimates, not offers from any particular dealer.

Prices update automatically about every 30 seconds. We use public market data interfaces for precious metal spot prices, exchange rates from the European Central Bank and price data from Yahoo Finance for charts.
